SINGAPORE - Tengah residents can look forward to more public transport options at their door step when a spanking new bus interchange opens later this month.

Tengah Bus Interchange – located in Tengah Boulevard and opening on July 21 will be managed by Tower Transit, said the Land Transport Authority (LTA) said in a statement on July 5

It will house facilities such as wheelchair-accessible toilets and a baby care room. It will also have energy-saving features like auto-sensor taps and motion sensor lights.

Residents will also be able to use a new bus service that will link Tengah to Bukit Batok West, Bukit Gombak and Beauty World.

Bus service 871 will ply a route that will take commuters to schools in Bukit Batok and Bukit Gombak like Dazhong Primary School and Hillgrove Secondary School, and amenities like Bukit Gombak Stadium, the statement said.

Tengah residents will also be able to take the bus to link up with the North-South Line at Bukit Gombak station and the Downtown Line at Beauty World station.

Also, two bus routes will cover more ground. Service 992 will ply a longer route that includes Tengah Garden Walk, Tengah Drive and Tengah Boulevard before ending at the interchange, while service 870 will take in Tengah Boulevard.

Bus service 870 will be extended via Tengah Boulevard and terminate at the interchange.

Service 992 is currently a loop service starting in Bukit Batok Interchange, while service 870 starts a loop route from Jurong Town Hall Interchange.

Information on the three bus services will be available at all affected bus stops and bus interchanges, as well as on the Tower Transit website, the statement said. Commuters can also approach staff for assistance.

The upcoming Jurong Region Line, slated to open in stages from 2027, will further boost connectivity in Tengah town, which will be home to four stations on the train line.

Two stations, including one located within the upcoming Tengah town centre, will be ready by 2027 under the first phase of opening.

Tengah HDB town is located in the region between Jurong East, Choa Chu Kang and Bukit Batok.

Billed as a “forest town”, it is the first HDB town to be developed since Punggol two decades ago. Once completed, it will have about 42,000 new homes, made up of 30,000 HDB flats and 12,000 private homes.

The latest Build-to-Order (BTO) projects for the area were launched in October 2023. The Plantation Edge I and II consist of 1,010 two-room flexi, three-room, four-room, and five-room BTO flats.
