SINGAPORE – The majority of e-wallet platform YouTrip’s services in Singapore and Thailand have been restored in the afternoon on Oct 19, after it reported a major service outage in both countries earlier in the day.

The functions restored include in-app currency exchange and top-up services, YouTrip said in a media reply at about 3.30pm, adding that some users may experience intermittent issues with card payments.

It reassured all users that their funds and accounts remain completely safe.

“Resolving this for all our users remains our top priority, and we thank our community for their ongoing patience and kind understanding,” YouTrip said.

As at noon, 19 of 23 services here – such as top-ups, in-app exchange, automated teller machine (ATM) withdrawals and digital wallet – were unavailable, according to its page which provides real-time status updates.

Only login, viewing of card details, sign-up and eSim services were listed as operational.

In Thailand, 11 of 14 services were unavailable as at 12.20pm, including wallet balance, top-ups and card transactions, according to its website. Only login, viewing of card details and sign-up services were available.

Checks by The Straits Times at about 12.50pm showed that the status of affected services in Singapore and Thailand were updated to “degraded performance”.

Checks on both pages at 3.55pm showed that three services in both Singapore and Thailand – card transactions, payment authentication and ATM withdrawals – were still experiencing “service degradation”.

The platform’s services in Australia, some of which were previously marked as under maintenance, have also been updated to “operational”.

It is not known when the outage started, but a Facebook user, commenting at about 10.40am on a post on YouTrip’s page on the social media platform, said his transfer request had been pending for two hours.

Replying to the comment, YouTrip said its app is currently experiencing some “technical difficulties”.

“You may find service degradation in using the card for payments and other services, including ATM withdrawals.

“We seek your patience and understanding as our teams are currently undergoing technical maintenance to rectify the situation,” it said.

On Feb 24, some YouTrip users reported having their card transactions declined, only for them to be charged later on.

The fintech company said a day later that the issue had been resolved, and all payment functions had returned to normal since 9.08pm on Feb 24.
