Pakistan General Asim Munir’s kite takes flight and could soar even higher

Every so often, US special envoy to the Middle East Steve Witkoff glances down at the cellphone buzzing in his hand and finds that Pakistan’s Field Marshal Asim Munir has again addressed him as “Brother”, a literal translation from the Punjabi word “bhai” which conveys both affection and regard.

More used to being called “buddy”, if at all, “Brother” leaves the real estate tycoon and confidant of US President Donald Trump bemused and unsure how to respond, people in Mr Witkoff’s circles tell me.
