MEERUT – In the late 1980s, when satellite television had yet to make an entry in India, one of the programming highlights on state broadcaster Doordarshan that generations of Indians grew up with was the TV serial Ramayan.
The small-screen rendition of the eponymous lndian literary epic on the life of the Hindu deity Ram, which aired between 1987 and 1988, was a huge success.
