PETALING JAYA – A total of 55 Malaysians remain uncontactable in Nepal following severe flash floods that struck the country on Aug 26, said Malaysia’s Foreign Ministry.
The Ministry said another 36 Malaysians have also been reported as uncontactable in China due to telecommunications disruptions.
“In Nepal, 55 Malaysians remain reported as uncontactable, while two Malaysians previously reported as uncontactable have since been contacted.
“Search and rescue operations and verification efforts remain ongoing, with no Malaysians identified at this stage among the 116 foreign nationals officially reported as rescued,” it said in a statement on Aug 29.
The Ministry said it has also expanded its consular response beyond Nepal to assist Malaysians affected by related travel disruptions in China.
“A group of 72 Malaysians in Darchen, China, has been confirmed safe and is receiving consular assistance from the Malaysian Embassy in Beijing.
“Separately, information has been received regarding 36 Malaysians currently reported as uncontactable in areas affected by telecommunications disruptions in China.
“The Ministry is working with the Chinese authorities and family members to establish contact, while cross-checking these reports against cases involving Malaysians in Nepal to identify any duplication,” it said.
The Ministry added that its operations room continues to operate around the clock as efforts to establish the safety and whereabouts of the Malaysians concerned continue.
