KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysian rapper Namewee and the late Taiwanese influencer Iris Hsieh Yun Hsi had a “special relationship”, police say.
“They are friends, and they have other relationships that I will not get into,” Kuala Lumpur police chief Fadil Marsus said on Nov 11.
“I do not need to reveal the full extent, but it is a ‘special relationship’,” he said.
He added that her body has yet to be claimed, and police were still awaiting the toxicology report.
He said: “That will take time. We will determine our suggestions to the deputy public prosecutor in the near future.”
Ms Hsieh was found dead in a hotel room in Kuala Lumpur on Oct 22.
Her death was initially said to be a sudden death, but the police reclassified it as murder on Nov 4.
Investigations revealed that Namewee, whose real name is Wee Meng Chee, was the last person seen with the 31-year-old victim in a hotel room at about 1.40pm on Oct 22.
He was arrested for possession and use of drugs, but released after claiming trial to drug-related charges at the Jalan Duta Court on Oct 24.
He showed up voluntarily at Dang Wangi district police headquarters on Nov 5 to help with the murder investigation and was subsequently detained.
He was initially remanded for six days, but the police obtained a three-day extension on Nov 10 until Nov 13. THE STAR/ASIA NEWS NETWORK
