‘We did it’: Taiwan’s new sea monster of a submarine sends deterrence message to China

TAIPEI - In the event of an invasion of Taiwan, the island would have the protection of a mythical sea monster as powerful as it is massive.

This, at least, is the image projected in the naming of Taiwan’s first domestically built submarine “Hai Kun”, after a gigantic fish of lore that can take to the skies.
