Crew of hijacked Singapore-registered vessel, Safmarine Kuramo, released

SINGAPORE - The crew of a Singapore-registered container vessel, Safmarine Kuramo, hijacked off the Nigerian Coast earlier this week, were released unharmed on Saturday (Feb 6) following efforts by Nigerian authorities.

The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) said it had received a report Friday (Feb 5) night about the incident.

The 25-member crew comprising nationals from the Philippines, South Africa, India, United Kingdom, and Thailand were on board the vessel which was proceeding from Pointe Noire, Congo to Port Onne, Nigeria. The vessel is currently anchored in the waters off the Bonny River delta where the waterway leads to Port Onne. The Safmarine Kuramo is managed by Maersk Line A/S.
