Mr Boris Johnson, who resigned on Monday as UK Foreign Secretary, is known to enjoy a Churchillian reference, absurdly seeing himself as the great man's heir. It remains to be seen whether his gambit is the beginning of the end for Prime Minister Theresa May or merely the end of the beginning. What is certain is that the second battle of Brexit has begun.

Mrs May understood last Friday that she was taking a significant political risk when she railroaded her Cabinet into accepting a plan that was hard for any committed Brexiter to swallow.
