PETALING JAYA (THE STAR/ASIA NEWS NETWORK) - Malaysia is once again in the minds of Star Trek fans around the world as "Pulau Langkawi" has been established as the place where Star Trek Discovery's Captain Philippa Georgiou grew up.

Georgiou is played by Malaysian actress Tan Sri Michelle Yeoh.

The mention comes in dialogue at the end of the finale for Season One, and is followed by a line by series lead Michael Burnham (Sonequa Martin-Green) responding with a nod to Langkawi's "beautiful beaches".

This followed an earlier line by Georgiou, who had said to Burnham that she grew up in Malaysia.

A clip of the dialogue uploaded on Facebook by user Muhammad Izsam has gone viral, with 5,489 shares since it was uploaded on Tuesday (Feb 13).

This is not the first time that Malaysia has been linked to a member of the main cast of a Star Trek series, as Malaysia has been mentioned in an episode of Star Trek: Enterprise, which ran from Sept 2001 to May 2005.

In Enterprise, it is mentioned in the 12th episode of the first season of the series (Silent Enemy) that the parents of the Enterprise's Malcolm Reed (Dominic Keating) live in Kota Baru, Kelantan.
