SINGAPORE – When Chinese author Zhang Yueran was little, she learnt about a sinister crime that had happened during the Cultural Revolution.
“My dad told me the story of something that happened to his neighbour – someone pierced his head with a nail and he went into a vegetative state,” Zhang says in Mandarin via a call from Beijing.
