SINGAPORE - Seven hikers from Singapore trapped from Friday (Oct 4) evening on Mount Raung in Indonesia's East Java province after forest fires broke out, blocking the climbing route, were evacuated to safety Saturday morning.

They were part of a group of 13 - the rest of them Indonesians - who were taken safely from the camp they were stranded at to base camp by 10.30am, said Dr Agus Wibowo, the spokesman of Indonesia's national disaster management agency (BPNB).
